Cruise control is a good tool for motorists of both motorhomes and tow vehicles as well as the family car. The primary purpose of cruise trip control is to keep up a preselected velocity and alleviate the driver from having to constantly maintain strain on the gas pedal. On long drives that pressure often leads to lower leg cramping and rigidity which will not only arrive in the lower leg on the accelerator pedal, but is also often sent up in to the buttocks and back.
Using cruise trip control makes it possible for the driver to be a little more tranquil. To the extent that relieves stress, its a very important thing, but you certainly don’t want to become so relaxed that you get apathetic or drowsy! Avoiding leg cramps is a good thing definitely. Using luxury cruise control is said to too improve gas mileage. Generally it can since most people can’t or don’t maintain steady strain on the accelerator and the cruise control does. Cruise trip control can help progress energy economy usually. Each time you press down on the acclerator pedal the fuel system dumps gas into the engine.
You might be surprised how often you press down on the accelerator, even when you are trying to simply maintain a reliable swiftness. Cruise control minimizes these surges and allows effectively the engine to operate more. However, cruise control can be problematic when towing much trailer or negotiating hills. Many drivers of heavy vehicles like to “get a run” at steep or long hills and cruise control cannot anticipate upcoming hills. It could only react when the hill has already slowed you down.

Drivers who routinely maintain a steady foot on the accelerator won’t see as much mileage improvement as those who tend to surge and back off frequently. I once got a structure supervisor whose inconsistency on the gas pedal was enough to make his passengers car sick. It was enough to cause his people to rock ahead and back rather highly. Fortunately I wasn’t susceptible to motion sickness but other employees were. Riding with him was not comfortable. He would have observed significantly better mileage by using luxury cruise control (and probably prevented passengers throwing up in his pickup truck!). Why does cruise trip control improve gas mileage?
For a very important factor, each time you press on the accelerator it dumps extra gas into the engine down. Avoiding frequent and often unnecessary movement avoids his extra fuel usage. Some years back I recall seeing something called an “Econometer” that supposedly helped drivers improve gas mileage. It had been a dial with green, yellowish, and red sections and the target was to keep carefully the needle in the green whenever you can to get the best possible gas mileage.
How do this work? Well, what it was really, was a vacuum gauge. Low vacuum occurs when the engine is under load, so maintaining a reliable throttle (high vacuum) and staying away from putting load on the engine improves gas mileage. Cruise control should NOT be applied to moist, snowy, or icy roads. It has been demonstrated that sail control, attempting to maintain velocity on slick streets, can cause you to loose control of your automobile sometimes.
